Black backed Rajah Shelduck

The Radjah Shelducks are divided into two races: Tadorna radjah rufitergum and Tadorna radjah radjah, the other being commonly called the Red backed Rajah Shelduck. The black backed is found around the coast of New Guinea and on the Molucca Islands where they inhabit the coastal marshes, lagoons and swamps. They are dabbling ducks which feed mainly at night. Their diet consists of mollusks, insects, sedge materials and algae.They form long term pair bonds and are usually seen either in pairs or in small groups. The sexes are alike.
