Red legged Partridge

Alectoris rufa

Larger than the native Grey Partridge this is a resident introduced species from continental Europe, where it is largely found in France and Spain. It breeds in open fields and sometimes open woodland. Found in coveys during the winter months where it feeds on a diet of seeds and roots.
