A common winter visitor this is the UKs
smallest true thrush. Their pale eyestripe and red patch on the flank
and under the wing make them very easy to recognise. Often seen in large
flocks, sometimes mixed with fieldfares, they can be found feeding in
fields and hedgerows. They also like to forage through the leaf litter
in beech, oak and coniferous woodland. Their diet consists of berries
and worms. Most redwings arrive in October/November and return to their
breeding grounds in northern Europe in March/April. A small breeding
population can be found in northern Scotland. |
