Robin (Erithacus rubecula)
A European bird loved by everyone who knows it. This is the bird after which the American Robin is named though the two birds are very different and do not belong to the same species group. Shy and retiring on the continent where they are shot but in the UK they are cheeky and in many cases quite tame. I love to photograph the robin. They follow you everywhere and are just made to have their photograph taken. I try to make it a rule these days to photograph the local Robin whereever I go with my camera.

During February and March robins pair up and become aggressively territorial. The robin in the photo above was displaying to another male robin.

June 1st 2005 and the first lot of juveniles have fledged and are also independant whilst their parents get round to preparing for their second brood. The youngsters are very speckly at first and it will take a few months before they have their full red breast.

This juvenile also seems to be a sunworshipper as he spreads his wings in the bright midday sun.

My mid August many juvenile robins have developed alot of red in their breast feathers.
