One of the busiest and fastest of all our
small waders. Can usually be found feeding and running alongside the
tideline. It does not breed in the UK but can be found on passage and
during the winter months. Its breeding grounds are up on the high Arctic
tundra near freshwater lakes. Its diet consists of small marine worms,
crustaceans and molluscs. The birds in the photos below were seen on
