A distinctive tern with a black cap and
black bill with yellow tip. A coastal bird found breeding on shingle,
sandy and rocky beaches and islands. It spends the winter months at
sea. Some of the most important colonies include the North Norfolk coast;
Minsmere, Suffolk; and Dungeness, Kent. Can be seen from late March
to September. It feeds on a diet of fish such as sandeels, sprats and
whiting. Length: 36-41cm, Wingspan: 95-105cm. |
