Phalacrocorax aristotelis

Similar to a cormorant but smaller and slimmer. In the breeding season adults develop a dark glossy green plumage and prominent recurved crest on the front of their head. They are a coastal breeding bird rarely found inland except occasionally during the winter months . Nests in coastal colonies on ledges and sea-cliffs in the north and west of the UK. It is a resident bird that is never that difficult to find. Its diet consists of fish and occasionally crustacea and molluscs. Length: 72-79cm, Wingspan: 95-110cm.
