Snow Goose (lesser)

(Chen caerulescens caerulescens)

This species has two different forms, the white morph and the blue morph. Breeding populations are to be found in Arctic canada where they breed on on low grassy tundra plains and broad shallow rivers near the coast. It is the most abundant goose in the Arctic. Reports say that conservation efforts and continuing improved breeding conditions have meant that this species is now out of control and beginning to damage their environment. Migration is in the Central Valley of California, and the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. Due to increased numbers however birds are migrating further inland in the search for food.
