South American Pochard

(Netta erythrophthalma)

I first came across this duck at Slimbridge in 2004 where my sightings and photographs of it where somewhat disappointing. A return in 2005 produced far better results. Found in South America this duck is related to the Rosybill and the Red crested Pochard. There are 2 races and the other is found in Africa. The bird in the photo below is the male.
