Trumpeter Swan

Trumpeter Swans are native to North America. They are the largest swan in the world, with a wingspan up to 9 feet, though sadly they are also becoming increasingly rare. These beautiful birds mate for life. Trumpeter Swan eat mostly water plants, like cattails, pondweeds, and others. In the wild they live for around 12 years though they can live considerably longer in captivation.
 
 
This spring there was much excitement at Martinmere as their pair of Trumpeter swans bred for the first time ever. First, the nest was made, largely by the female as the male collected the materials and then two eggs were laid.....
 
 
 
Then on one day in mid July one of the eggs hatched .......
