Trumpeter Swan page 2 |
In the wild the Trumpeter swan lays 5-6 eggs. At Martinmere this spring only 2 were laid and sadly only one of them hatched successfully. The other was found to be sterile. For the first 2 days the cygnet hid under his mother for protection. But then he came out and showed his face. |
These swans live in the arctic tundra where it is very cold. As a result the swans have very thick feathers to keep them warm and their cygnets grow very fast. The immature swan in the photo below is about 3 months old.
