A common summer visitor found on upland
pastures and moorland. Also on lowland grassland. Found mostly in
northern and western britian though there are small breeding populations
in southern and eastern england too. Can be seen in large numbers
on the coast during autumn migration. The males are more striking,
in grey, with both sexes displaying a vivid white rump as they fly.
It winters in central Africa. It feeds on a diet of insects and
larvae. The bird in the photo below was a lone female that made
a very late visit to Doffcocker in May 2010. |
