White cheeked Pintail

(Anas bahamensis)

Also known as the Bahama Pintail this is one of my favourite ducks at Martinmere. These birds originate from South America. They are a gregarious species that can be found in brackish lakes, estuaries and wetlands, and is only rarely found in fresh-water habitats. They have an entirely herbaceous diet. The male and female look alike though the male has slightly more red on his bill. The photo below was taken with the Canon 350d.
