Hello and welcome. I hope that you have enjoyed looking at my website and that you continue to visit. The site has been up and running for over 5 years now and I thought it was about time I introduced myself, gave alittle of my history and if you are interested introduce you to other things that fill my life. Many thanks for taking an interest. Annette Cutts March 2009

I was born in Sheffield in 1969 where I grew up with my parents, brother and sister on the edge of a council estate to the north of the city. From a young age I had a love of drawing and writing which I did avidly. Birdwatching and nature studies was to follow in my mid teens and was only temporarily put to one side as I continued my education at North Staffs university where I did a BA honours degree in Human Geography. I moved to Bolton, got married and over the next 10 years I raised a family, two sons and one daughter.

Many people ask me where my name Psilo comes from? Eight years ago I started up a cottage garden seed company. I bred and raised Hardy geraniums for the retail trade and my favourite species was Cranesbill Psilostemon. When I was first new to the computer I needed a username and psilostemon was too long and so Psilo was born. It is a name by which I am still very much recognised today.

During a long spell of illness and as a result of council negligence my business folded and I took up more leisurely pursuits. When my health was poor I had painted whenever I could but as I recovered I looked for more outdoor pursuits. Being outdoors once again sparked my interest in nature and bird watching and so the world of bird photography entered my life. From 2004 up to the present day I have spent hundreds of hours perfecting my craft and attempting to bring beauty into the comfort of every ones living room. My photographs have sold all around the world and appear in many magazines, books and cds. As an impressionable teenager I was always inspired by the art work of the late Sir Peter Scott. Hss paintings of wildfowl over marshes stayed with me and became the influence of many of my flight photographs today.

Last year bad health struck once again and over this winter I braved the cold very little and decided to find new ways of inspiring myself. I am still taking photographs but of a different nature. When the weather warms up alittle I will go out once more to follow nature but for now I am studying nature closer to home. This year, 2009 I decided to pick up my pen once more and go back to writing. Once a prolific writer of natural history and short stories I returned to the latter and have been having much fun at my laptop. Most short stories are of an adult nature so not available here but since I have started writing my novel in the summer of 2009 I have also been practising with writing other things. As yet the sample is small but I hope to broaded the range very soon.

SHORT STORIES

Other pursuits include taking down my conservatory and sorting out my garden which has been badly neglected over the last 3 years. Once an experienced horticulturist I have quite a job back on my hands but I am in the right frame of mind to tackle it now. I have created a series of webpages to show how I am progressing with it. Feel free to take a look if you are interested.

Toby

My other passion at the present time are my cats. I recently rescued two from their owner who no longer wanted them and they continue to be my pride and joy. Toby is the youngest at 8 months old and his mother Tess who is 3 and who this week has given birth to her third litter of kittens. Warm and snug in their little home I have thoroughly enjoyed photographing them and will continue on with their progress into the summer.
